Perry almost died four years ago.
In his interview withPeople About his book, Perry, now 53 years old, shared that when he was 49 years old, he was in a coma for two weeks and hospitalized for five months after the colon breakup due to the overuse of opioids . He also had to use a colostomy bag for nine months.

His health problems inspired him to remain sober.
