Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady recently gathered for a special reason.
In the 1960s,Jefferson plane was one of the largest groups ofrock music, thanks to their psychedelic sound and their involvement in cultural events such as Woodstock and the summer of love. In 1996, the range of members at the height of Jefferson Airplane's career was inducted into rock and roll Hall of Fame. Today, three of these six members are still alive: the singerGrace Slick, guitaristJorma Kaukonenand bass playerJack Casady.
Kaukonen was a founding member of Jefferson Airplane in 1965, while her childhood friend Casady joined very early (before the group's first outing) when he replacedBob Harvey. As for Slick, in 1966, she replaced the singerToly Anderson sign, who recorded with the group on their first album,Jefferson Airplane takes off.

Jefferson Airplane was at its peak in the late 1960s.
The Jefferson plane range which was from 1966 to 1970 was the one that was inducted into rock and roll Hall of Fame. The group stopped playing together around 1972, the same year, they released the albumLong John Silver. They then gathered in 1989 for the albumJefferson plane.
That said, some members continued to play together, forming the Jefferson Starship group (later known as Just Starship) in 1974. One of them was smooth. As for Kaukonen and Casady, they formed their own group, Hot Tuna, during their stay at Jefferson Airplane and continued with the group to the present day.
In October 2022, Kaukonen, Casady and Slick gathered to unveil Jefferson Airplane's star on Hollywood renown.

After Jefferson Airplane, Kaukonen started his Hot Tuna group with Casady and also launched a solo career. Hot Tuna released seven studio albums - the last in 2011 - as well as a number of live albums. Kaukonen also released 13 solo studio albums. The last was 2020sThe river flows.
The 81 -year -old musician isCurrently on tour, performing both solo and with hot tuna. In 2018, he published his autobiography,Been so long: my life and my music.

Jack Casady has also been in other groups.
Casady and Kaukonen are long -standing friends and collaborators,Play music together in adolescence In Washington, D.C., Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. Like Kaukonen, Casady, now 78, also interpreted music outside the two groups. He was in SVT and Yanks groups, joined a reformed Jefferson vessel in the 90s and released a solo album, 2003Dream factor. In addition, Casady sometimes teaches at Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch, andHe designed his own bass For the brand's epiphone.
Casady was married to his wife,Diana Casady, untilShe died in 2012 After a battle against cancer.
Grace Slick is a visual artist.
Slick, 82, recalls his stay in Jefferson Airplane, thanks to his memorable voice on songs like "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to love". After the group was dissolved, she joined Jefferson Starship, who then became a starship. With Starship, she sang on the tubes "Nothing will stop us now" and "we have built this city". During the 1970s and 80s, she released four solo albums.
Now to retire from music, Slick is also a visual artist, and she painted the portraits of Casady and Kaukonen on the cover of their albumThe best of hot tuna. His memories,Someone to love?, was published in 1998.
Slick was married twice: atJerry Slick from 1961 to 1971 andJump Johnson from 1976 to 1994. She had a daughter,China Kanter, with the late Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship BandmatePaul Kanter.
