From retail trade to travel, practically all industries have felt the pinch oflate commercial landscape in one way or another. But the data show that catering establishments have suffered particularly hard.

Temporary closures and the reduction of regulations on capacities at the start of the pandemic naturally brought a blow for restaurants. The results of a survey published on May 14, 2021 by the National Restaurant Association (NRA) revealed that at least90,000 restaurants, bars, chain catering establishments and local restaurants had closed or were in long -term hibernation.

Although it has been difficult to nail data on closures since then, the shortages of current labor, high inflation and supply chain problems have continuedexercise hotel industry. The problems were also aggravated when the congress failed to reconstruct the revitalization fund of the restaurant used for the relief of small businesses after its first round in May,The Washington Post reports.

"Just as we hear that the stock market is fine, then we go to Main Street, and it's not that great, I feel the same thing about BLS [Bureau of Labor Statistics]", "Erika Polmar, executive director of the independent restaurant coalition, saidThe Washington Post in a June interview. "Maybe things look great on paper and maybe we are booming, but when you go out and talk to the community, it's not good."

While the remaining locations of the Kirby restaurant continued to serve their classic American price and house popular bars, operations remained difficult even after the locking end. Labor misfortunes and other problems now familiar to catering establishments have wreaked havoc on the company, says Zdyb. He adds that even offering higher wages did not help him keep employees.

"Before Covid, I have never had a problem [keeping staff]," Zdyb told Syracuse.com. "Since then, it's another story."

The latest closures mark the winner of a company that lasted decades in the region. The chain initially started as locations for the national channel Mr. Steak in the early 1970s, which had more than 300 locations at the time, reports Syracuse.com. Zdyb bought franchises in the chain region in 1982 before breaking into the company and renamed the Kirby's restaurant group.

In the years that followed, Zdyb has extended and launched other local catering establishments. He opened the restaurants of Zebb Burger - appointed after the pronunciation of his name - before selling the mini -chain in 2007, according to Syracuse.com. He also formerly owned a popular seafood restaurant calledHook, line and lead to Utica That he closed in October 2010, reports Lite 98.7.

Even if the last decision to rationalize Kirby made sense from an operational point of view, Zdyb admits that he regrets having to make the call to consolidate. "It was a difficult decision, but we have no choice," he told Syracuse.
