While Doogie Howser was busy being a teenage doctor, her best friend Vinnie Delpino lived a normal high school life. In 2015, Casella told the A.V. Club that is flowedDoogie Howser, M.D. was aHuge turning point in his career. When the show was created, Casella was 22 years old.

In an interview with HuffPost Live in 2016, he was asked how he got out ofDoogie Howser Without the "Child Star" label. "I was not a child and I was not a star, that's why I escaped this," he replied.
