Joy Behar defends the controversial costume: "It was nothing near Blackface"
The co-host of The View said that the choice of Halloween of her youth was "a tribute".
During his almost 25 years laterView,,Joy Behar made apologies and admitted some mistakes. But, with regard to a scandalous situation of her past, the co-host and actress stands on the ground. In a new interview withTime, the 79 year old manTV personality commented to dress like what she described as "a beautiful African woman" for a Halloween party when she was younger. And, according to Behar, despite the backlash, "it was nothing near Blackface".

The photo was shown to viewers on a 2016 episode ofView.
During an episode of 2016 ofView in which Behar spoke of naturally curly hair becoming more popular,Producers have shown a photo of her dressed in the costume in the early 1970s. Behar explained: "I was 29 years old. It was a Halloween party. I went like a beautiful African woman."Raven-Symoné then said: "Oh yeah, you're not black. "Behar asked him," Why are you angry with me now? ""

In his interview in July 2022 withTime,,Behar discussed the costume again and say, "For me, it was like: "Look how pretty I can be as a woman dressed like that." It was nothing near Blackface. It was the tan, which I used with my natural curly hair. And the black community had my back because they understand what the blackface is. ""
She also said that she was a black producer who put the photo for the first time 20 years ago. "And all of a sudden, this photo became Verboten," she said.
