According to a press release from the Department of Agriculture and North Carolina Consumption (NCDA & CS), 11 stores in the State - including the general locations of Walmart and Dollar - have been sentenced to a fine due to "Excessive price sweep errors. "The shops were located through the North Carolina, in the counties of Ashe, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Moore, Surry, Watuga and Yadkin.

The increase in price scanning errors is related to the shortage of pandemic and current staff COVID-19 in progressSteve Troxler, Commissioner of Agriculture of North Carolina. "It's always good practice for consumers to check their receipts as well as the price on the shelf to make sure they pay the correct amount," Troxler said in the press release.

Chad Parker, Director of the standard division of the NCDA & CS, saidThe Charlotte Observer that there was aregistration number of these complaints and overload fines in North Carolina. Walmart and Dollar's general locations were sentenced to a fine of a combined total of $ 48,760 over the last four months, but other stores also overloaded customers. An Ingles location (a supermarket chain) and two Advance Auto locations have been affected with $ 10,530 in combined fines, according to the NCDA & CS press release.

The 11 stores listed were only a fraction of the 42 total stores who were sentenced to a fine of North Carolina during the first quarter of 2022. Inflation is also a contributing factor, said Parker. Prices are downloaded from corporate places, but shop employees have the difficult task of manually changing the shelf tags. And with rapidly changing prices, from 10,000 to 20,000 labels could be changed weekly, according to Parker. "Obviously, it's going to be much more difficult to do," he saidThe observer.

These price differences are found when Inspectors of the NCDA and CS carry out inspections of the locations of stores, periodical and unexpected. If more than one difference of 2% is noted between the price indicated and the prices that sound in the register, the inspector speaks with the manager and plans a monitoring inspection. Stores lead to penalties when they fail these follow -up inspections and are then reintegrated every 60 days until the error rate below 2%is obtained. If they continue to fail inspections, stores can also cause additional penalties.

Although some locations have successfully passed inspections, others must still be reinstated, including two Walmart locations, three generals to a dollar and an Advance Auto store.
