The term "surviving guilt" is not new to the world. Therapists have long and very familiar with this syndrome because they are the right professionals to help people cope with the mental problem. But now in Ukraine this diagnosis just out of personal chats and medical offices in all possible social networks and public discussion. This happened because at one point to "blame escaped" sick more than half of the country. Suddenly psychological war led him to divide thousands of people who escaped from her physically, but morally continue to be under fire of his own "I". Since few people can now visit once a therapist to talk about his condition, he will try to briefly explain the basic aspects. What is the "fault escaped?"

Syndrome of "guilt escaped" - a kind of continuous guilt experienced by a person who has survived a traumatic event (survived the war, assault, assassination, overcame cancer, survived the crash, etc.). A similar feeling can just occur in those who failed deliberately or accidentally to avoid any situation which bore a direct threat to life and health. Consider the example of a situation of war in Ukraine. Now our country is experiencing unprecedented for all 30 years of independence acts of terror against the civilian population, which for many days, and do not stop shocking new cases each. For more than two weeks Ukrainian nation is in constant fear and stress contemplating how everything built so long that it becomes protected and loved ruins. They actively suffering from "guilt escaped" because their life is no threat, while others survive in terror and humanitarian catastrophe. For friends with whom until recently together went for coffee, now do not have enough food and water, sleeping in the basement and are afraid to go outside while safe when you continue to live their normal life routine. This incredibly pressing on the psyche and there is a continuous fault.

Wines felt that abandoned homes, betrayed friends and / or relatives that cowards and generally worthless and bad people. And the cherry on the cake: nothing and do not deserve to survive. But we must remember that no fault in this case does not exist and can not be.

How to handle it?

First of all it is necessary to understand that, first, this war not your fault, and therefore responsibility, and secondly, not yourself, nor your stay in danger or suffering or death does not affect the course of events. This axiom. Then do the following:

  • Allow yourself to grieve and worry. This is perfectly normal, even if you're safe. War - a common problem for all Ukrainian people.
  • Frankly talk with people who feel the same emotions.
  • Realize that everyone is responsible for themselves and those who left themselves so decided. You can not in any way be held accountable.
  • Do everything in your power or opportunities: Volunteers Donato money, help with evacuation friends, work, support the family. Even funny memes and precise and reassuring, patriotic positions in social networks will strengthen the contribution to the morale of others.
  • If you are not able to get rid of this uncomplicated guilt, then take it as a fact and practice self-release. Just sorry to yourself.
  • If you feel that you are not dealt with, then with the very first opportunity to contact the psychotherapist
  • Follow the sleep mode, make breathing exercises, drink more water and do not sit in four walls - walk in the yard.
  • Try at least partially to return all the small joys of its pre-war routine. This will helpeal and calm down.
  • Know that the war ends. And when Ukraine will win, then each of us will need it. The more civilian Ukrainians will remain safe and save their lives and health, the more so we can compete around the treatment of our wounded defenders, the restoration of our economy and the reconstruction of our new, beautiful cities!
