The actorMERCEDES MCCAMBRIDGE (All the men of the king,Giant) was an artist in residence at the Catholic University in 1972 and 1973. She had entered the possession of one of Gingham's dresses - there were several-this garland wearing like Dorothy Gale inThe Wizard of Oz.
Mazzgenga explains that this is unknown, how McCambridge came to have the dress-although it was said to be friends with guangs - but she doubledFather Gilbert Hartke, who was the leader of the University's theater program. Hartke was known for his eccentric style of fashion and fashion interest.
He was found in a surprising place.
Hartke died in 1986 and there had been rumors for a long time in the school that the dress was somewhere on the campus. "I could never get the confirmation exactly where he was," explainedMatt ripa, a conference and operations coordinator for the theater department, in the history of Mazzenga. "I had looked into our archives, our storage cupboards, etc. In vain. I assumed it was a great tale (many of which exist for Father Hartke)."
But when the building of the theater department was cleaned before the renovation, RIPA noticed a trash bag at the top of the mailboxes of the Faculty. "On the trash was a note of our old chair indicating that he had found" this "in his office and that he had to have moved it when he came out of the office of the chair ... I was curious what was Inside and opened the trash bag and the interior was a shoebox and inside the shoe box was the dress !! I could not believe it. "

The dress was then examined for authenticity.
Ripa Put gloves to watch the dress and take pictures, and it was then inspected by experts from the Smithsonian National Museum of American history, which houses other memories ofThe Wizard of Oz. For example, it has the name of Guand written inside, a secret pocket sewn in all the dresses of the star and the evidence of sewing repairs that align the history of the film.
It's now in a much safer place.
