When we decide that we want to get in advance, it is a fundamental truth that most of us start by thinking that we need aNew job. You know, maybe we want to take advantage of our work more, to find out more, to make money or have more power. Now there is nothing wrong with that. We are human, after all. But the truth is that you can usually reach a lot of these things in your current role. Simply give more than succeed.
At the end of the day, thinking about the value that you can add to an organization, as opposed to what it can give you, is probably the most important and ironic indicator of success. In this spirit, I described all my favorite attributes among employees. (Well, at least those who make advance.) And for more career advice, here is my advice forDoubling your productivity every day.
1 Get earlier and stay later than your boss.
Yes, even if she says you do not need. There is no substitute for hard work and commitment. I like getting up at 5 o'clock in the morning, exercise with my friends, take coffee and be at my first meeting of 7:30. Ben Franklin was right: "Starting bed and getting up early makes a healthy man, rich and wise."
2 Yes, be presented.
I hope it goes without saying. But dress up for the work you want, not the one you have. Show well neat and, unless you wear suede sneakers or shoes, make sure your shoes are cleaned and polished. And, for what it goes, I would advise you never to wear sneakers to work. I do not care how old are you.
3 Smile. And stay outside the office policy.
To be a friend to everyone. It's human nature to chat now and then. But it's also a really bad career movement. If you can drive it out of your system in the workplace it would be great. Otherwise, leave it in one for the day.
4 Never say, "It's not my job."
Say yes - always. Volunteer for more. There is no work that is under you. I have been at this post for a while and I did quite well, and I have the pleasure of getting a colleague coffee or taking garbage that are on the floor. (Oh, and pick up the garbage that are on the floor, by the way.)
5 Listen. Never interrupt.
You would be amazed by what you will learn and everyone. If you rarely speak and only after listening, you must add more value - and be more respected than you aim to be the most intelligent person in the room.
6 Keep the tabs.
This is extremely important: Keep a calendar of all your working meetings and key events and activities. Make sure to review it before the start of the week, at the beginning of each day, and at the end of each week to determine what you actually reached and what value did you actually have brought to your business. All times will not be productive, but if weeks go through this are consumed with work that does not really move the ball for society, identify your approach.
