Researchers have requested 160,000 adults, from 31 different countries, who participated in the International Adult Skills Assessment Program between 2011 and 2015, how many books were at home when they grow up. They then compared these responses to the results of a series of tests that participants took to measure their literacy, computing and communication communication skills (ICT).

What they have noticed was that those who grew up with almost no book in their home have marked below the average literacy tests, while those who had about 80 people in their homes when they are were teenagers marked about the average. The positive correlation between the number of books in the room and literacy levels continued to increase after 80 years, but preview after 350.

"The exposure of adolescents to books is an integral part of social practices that promote long-term cognitive skills covering literacy skills, in calculation and ICT", wroteDr. Joanna Sikora, a principal speaker in sociology from the Australian National University. "Growing up with home libraries increases adult skills in these areas beyond the accumulated benefits of parental education or their own level of education or teaching."

In addition, the document asserts that, at least, at least, there is no sufficient evidence to suggest that literacy gains of printing books can be replaced by e-books consumed on an iPad.
