Here is the last statement of the lady below:
Dear fans,
As a group, we strive that our music is a refuge ... Included everything. We looked and listened to more than ever in recent weeks and our hearts were agitated with conviction, our eyes are largely open to injustices, inequalities and bias of black women and men have always been confronted and continue to face daily. . Now, shielded that we did not even know existed were revealed. After a lot of personal reflection, tape discussion, prayer and many honest conversations with some of our nearest black friends and colleagues, we decided to drop the word "antebellum" of our name and move forward As Lady A, the nickname of our fans almost gave us almost from the beginning.
When we go together almost 14 years ago, we named our group after the southern style house of the "Antebellum" where we took our first pictures. As a musicians, it reminded us all the music born in the south that influenced us ... Southern Rock, Blues, R & B, Gospel and of course. But we are regrettic and embarrassed to say that we have not taken into account the associations that weigh on this word referring to the history period before the civil war, which includes slavery. We are deeply sorry for the injury that this has caused and for anyone who felt dangerous, invisible or not evaluated. Cause pain has never been the intention of our heart, but it does not change the fact that it's really that. So today we are talking and making a change. We hope you are going to dig and join us.
We understand that many of you can ask the question "Why did not you make this change so far?" The answer is that we can not do any excuse for our delay in this achievement. What we can do is recognize it, to move it from it and take action.
We think we were awake, but it's just a step. There are countless more that must be taken. We want to do better. We are committed to examining our individual and collective impact and to make the necessary amendments to the practice of anti-racism. We will continue to educate ourselves, have difficult conversations and look for parts of our hearts requiring elaboration to become better humans, better neighbors. Our next external step will be a gift at the initiative of justice equal through Ladyaid. Our prayer is that if we go by the example ... with humility, love, empathy and action ... we can be better allies to those who suffer from spoken and unpleasant injustices, while influencing our children and our children generations to come.
Love,
Lady a
Hillary, Charles & Dave
