Here is the age when cute puppies are at their cutest
The new science reveals that puppies need us as much as we need it.
If you ever look at a puppy and you find yourself overwhelmed with a sudden and irrefruphered need to tackle in love and affection (I am nothing if not guilty of this), rest assured: science has your back.
Now, a new study conducted byClive WynneProfessor of Psychology and Director of Canine Collaboration from Arizona State University, highlights the evolution of this uncontrollable desire.
While observing the faders in the Bahamas, Wynne wondered if there was a link between the hundreds of millions of homeless dogs in the Word and the need of human beings feel to take care of them, especially when they are little.
Perform the study, who has been published inAnthrozoos: a multidisciplinary newspaper of the interactions of people and animalsHe asked 51 participants to look for a series of dog photographs at different ages and assess their level of kindness. (Side note: It sounds like the best experience of all time and I regret that I have not been invited to be part of it). The photographs included three distinct and particularly adorable breeds: Jack Russell Terriers, Cane Corso and white shepherds.
The results followed with the Wynne forecasts. The kindness of the bias was at its lowest at birth, which looks like tiny potatoes - and culminated eight weeks on average, before decreasing slightly, then stabilizing.
It explains why as many breeders offer puppy photos at this specific age (as was the case with my puppy, Sherlock, indicated below), as it is the moment that humans are most likely to Feel an irresistible desire to take them to the house.
But the reason this age is so particularly remarkable also has interesting implications for the human-canine relationship, because it is eight weeks that mothers come to their puppies and then let them manage for themselves.
"About seven or eight weeks of age, just like their mother went off and will hit them with the den and they will have to make their own way in life, at this age, that's exactly when they are the most Attractive for Human Beings », Wynnesays in a newsletter.
Wynne's results also suggest that humans are absolutely crucial for canine survival. Cats can love you and show affection, but they do not need humans to survive. Anyone who traveled well knew it, because many holiday destinations are very proud of their stray cats. Kotor, a popular resort on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro, even has a chat museum and chat figurines to celebrate all the contracts that feast on the remains of fish by external dinners, then fight in the sun for their nap of noon. Wandering dogs, on the other hand, are always a sorry view to see because they fundamentally need humans.
"It could be a signal that suits us how dogs have evolved to rely on the care of the person," Wynne said. "It could be dogs showing us how the link between man and the dog is not just something we find a lot of satisfactory in our lives. But for them, it is the absolute rocky substrate of their Existence. This can connect with us, to find an emotional hook with us is what makes their lives possible. "
The study shows that our relationship with dogs, like the oldest and most sustainable human relationship, is different from that of other furry friends. There are countless social media videos that show how often the most mistreated dog has just loved his new owner, because trusting humans intrinsically swallowed in their instinct. A particularly shredder andViral video of a dog in India is proof of this. A man is signing at the dog to come to him, only to give him a slap in the face. Nevertheless, when the next Human proposes to tap it on the head, it is important to it.
"It seems to me that the dog has something special enough," said Wynne. "Dogs have a very open social program. They are ready to make friends with anyone."
The study is also interesting in the light of recent research showing why we treat puppies as they are babies, likeThis study showing that "Doggy Talk" helps us to bind with our pets Many the same way as "Baby Talk" so does it with our infants. This also explains their lasting loyalty, like that of this dog who has been a recent viral for patientlyWaiting for 12 hours at a station every day for his human to go home.
According to the World Health Organization, there are more than 200 million stray dogs around the world, with approximately 3.3 million entering US shelters each year. By bringing one in your house is not just beneficial for the dog, it is also a great strengthening of the well-being for the human.
