Patients with type 1 diabetes are particularly in danger. Hyperosmolarity, orDiabetic hyperosmolar syndrome, most often the effects of patients with type 2 diabetes, and occurs when the blood sugar level is too high. By the Mayo Clinic, it can be "triggered by illness or infection" and "lead to dehydration threatening life" if it is not treated.
