The study, in a pre-imprint shared by Medrxiv on 27 December, interviewed 3,762 people from 56 countries aged 30 to 59 who experienced symptoms of Covid forMore than 28 days. The study was aimed at "characterizing the symptom profile and the course of time in patients with Long Covid, as well as the impact on everyday life, work and return to basic health". The researchers found that 96% of long-lived patients - that is, those with symptoms after 28 days - did not return to basic health for more than three months and the majority of patients still known symptoms seven months after diagnosis.

The researchers found that some behaviors appear to trigger symptoms: the study noted that approximately 86% of participants experienced relapses in symptoms when they are exercised, engaged in physical or mental activity, or experienced stress.
An important part of the participants required an adjusted work schedule because of their symptoms. According to the survey, about 45% of participants reported needing a reduced work schedule after COVID and around 22% of people did not work at the time of the survey because of the severity of their VVID symptoms.
