A terrible error you should not do with your face mask
Read this before destroying your first line of defense against Covid-19.
You probably know that wearing a face mask is your most effective defense against coronavirus. (Otherwise, see here.) Wear a blanket on the mouth and nose is not just better for your safety, it is also better for the safety of other people around you. Since this small piece of 9 to 6-inch fabric could actually save your life, it raises the question: Give yourself your mask to your face the TLC it deserves in return?
Any mask that is not disposable requires regular cleaning and maintenance after each wear - and, yes, there are bad ways to go there. For starters, you should not use cold water. (Only hot.) You should not use too much bleach, either. (But a little goes. More than that later.) However, a facial mask error that goes above all in the category of bad ideas:You should never clean your mask by putting it in the microwave.
Now I can see why you could really want. (Seriously, no judgment.) Hospitals sterilize their equipment with high temperature UV-C rays and study after study have shown that the sun and extreme temperatures actually destroy covid-19 particles with incredible efficiency. But, put your fabric mask, even worse if it has metal parts - in the same device you use to blow up a bag of Orville Redenbacher ismanner dangerous.
Here's why:
At best, the microfuille that your fabric mask will spoil the mask by charting the fabric, the fondant and making it useless. At worst? You will set fire to your home.
Nuking a mask that has metal components is actually much worse because the microwave metal causes sparks that can destroy your microwaveand starts a fire.
If you want to clean your mask, the right path, theCDC makes it clear crystalline How you can do it: Just throw it in your washing machine. The guidelines say it is correct to include with a regular load and use one of your typical detergents. Do not forget to use the appropriate water setting.
If you need to wash your mask by hand, the CDC recommends using a whitening solution comprising 5 tablespoons (1 / 3rd cup) domestic bleach by gallon of ambient temperature water (or 4 Coffee tables of domestic bleach by quarter of ambient temperature water). Then soak the face in front of the bleaching solution for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with ambient temperature water.
After washing your reusable fabric mask, it is important to avoid wearing it again until it is completely dry. TheCDC recommends Using the highest heat setting on your dryer and let it until it is completely dry. If possible, place the fabric face in direct sunlight. Otherwise, make sure it does not find its way into the microwave. And for more, make sure youSubscribe to our newsletter To keep you informed of the latest coronaviruses.
