This grocery store closes more than 60 pharmacy pitches

Customers say they were not warned.


Wakefern Foods Corp., the owner of the grocery chain Shoprite, farm 62 store pharmacies in the northeast and sold his lists of customers to CVS.

The company owns and operates more than 250Shoprite New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland stores. Customers say they have discovered abruptly when taking prescription and employees said that imminent news would focus on CVIV-19 vaccines, but discovered closures from a conference call, according toThe Philadelphia Investigator. The news comes only a few weeks afterShoprite announced On January 4, 39 pharmacies of New Jersey would distribute COVID-19 vaccines to health workers. The movement is a signal that the Shoprite chain can not follow large rivals like Walgreens and CVS,Grocery store said. The convenience store has made similar offers with retailers in the past. Target worked on 1,600 pharmacies in its stores until 2015, when it sold them to CVS. This agreement with Shoprite, however, includes closing pharmacies instead of a change of ownership.

CVS says it will examine all pharmacists and employees of local CVS locations. Other assistant staff will be eligible for other items at the grocery chain. Store managers say they hope that vacant space will be transformed into space for local businesses to sell beer, wine or take-away draw, the newspaper indicates.
