How my life has changed after I went paleo
"I was not sentenced to bad digestion forever - I just had to learn the right way to feed me."
The funny thing about me being paleo is that for the longest period, I thought thepale Sounded well, kind of stupid. Ditch grains? But people eat them for eons. What is the problem with beans, ordairy? These are healthy foods, Duh.
I was always a healthy eater in the conventional sense - I have eaten my vegetables (I was even vegetarian for a few years), limited and sometimes cut red meat, limited fat, opted for bread and grain pasta whole, etc. But I always had a terrible digestion. As a kid and young adult, I found myself a few times a few times with acute stomach pain and daytime the day suffers from bloating and ... Let's simply say other digestive problems. At 23, I had a peptic ulcer.
And yet, I have never interviewed how my eating habits could affect my digestion. I did everything that will eat well "good", become a lot of exercise, all that. The fact that I had a "bad stomach" -more of a gastro doc said that "was just a chance of the draw.
How I discovered my inner cave
Then, in 2014, three things took place through the same time that changed everything. We readBelly of wheatBy Dr. William Davis, where I learned the grains that we do not have the same as what our ancestors have eaten; Another interviewed Dave Assey on the diet of bullets, reading his book (The diet of bullets) and try coffee; And finally, make an "whole cleaning", AKA an elimination regime, withAynsley Kirshshenbaum, a nutritionist based in my Brooklyn district. During 12-day cleaning, I abandoned wheat, corn, soy, peanuts, dairy, sugar and some other common irritants. I did not expect since I was already a relatively healthy eater, but I was shocked.
I have always been energetic enough (a good way to say "agitated agitated"), but my energy has absolutely climbed. I felt so mentally alert and physically strong. I was not overweight before, but I leaned. The best of all, the digestive problems I had suffered for all my life had gone. Yes, party. Provides, I do not have a "bad stomach" after all - I only fled all fake.
He resumed some irritating foods for a short time to understand exactly what hurts me. But once the photo was clear, I started trying other things - give up all the legumes instead of soy and peanuts, passing over all the grains instead of anything wheat and the corn, etc. where I landed was basically the paleo regime.
Yes, I eat more than bacon
Now, when I say "Paleo", some people assume that it means that I eat bacon all day, which is not true. It's a false idea about Paleo, it's all the meat, all the time. My diet is not strict paleo, and it integrates several ball prosits. In a typical day, I start withBaler cafe, which is a biological coffee mixed with grass butter and MCT oil. With the exception of this and drink plenty of water, I'm fast until 11:00. The rest of the time, I eat a ton of vegetables, a lot ofhealthy fatsand very moderate portions of high quality protein such as 100% grease beef, wild fish and seashells, pulled chicken eggs and, yes, bacon and pork raised hogs humbly. I do not eat a lot of poultry, especially because it is not my favorite and it is not as nutritious-dense as other animal proteins. I appreciate small portions of fruits, lots of nuts, seeds and nuts nuts / seeds. I am currently obsessed with pili-walnuts - the highest and lowest carbohydrate nuts in the world, which is really so deliciously and fermented like Kimchi. In addition, I eat a piece ofdark chocolate each day.
Where I go from Paleo is that I eat some dairy products and white rice. I learned some other places where I can go astray - I can have some chickpeas, oats and even a little peanut butter from time to time without problem. I do not give too often because I like the other foods I eat a lot more, but if there are hummus around and that I am attractive, I will have some bites and it's okay.
I do not really miss the food I have abandoned, because for one thing, I know I can have them at any time. I feel so much better eating in this way - it does not feel like a sacrifice. Fortunately, there are many paleo products on the market, so I do not have to really go without most of my favorites (hello,Pizza de Cappello,Dang coconut bars,Siete Foods Tortillas,English muffins of Mikey, andHU Chocolate cuisine) In addition, it helps to develop recipes to make a living; If there is nothing on the market I want, I find how to do it.
Sometimes life comes in the way
Eating as I do is sometimes a problem, like when I was traveling or an event and there are no solid options so that I can enjoy. Sometimes I do not jump if I really do not want what's available (now that I'm adapted fat, I can do that - it was impossible when I ate less fat and had to be nourished every two hours Or other); At other times, I have a small part of something I did not normally eat and I just know that I will not feel so well after. I do the latter when it is not socially acceptable not to eat - if you invite me to dinner and to serve only pasta, for example, I will have a small part to be polished. And when I do it, I make sure to pay attention while I eat and enjoy the news factor.
One thing to note about Paleo, however, it's not just food. It's a lifestyle that seeks to integrate some of the habits that our ancestors appreciate, adapted to our modern way of life. Sleep, stress management, have strong connections with other people, moving all day long, as well as getting a more formal functional exercise - all are highlighted in a paleo approach.
My friends and my families are mostly very favorable. Of course, there are people who are fast to judge or who like to make fun of me for the way I eat. But the way I look at it, it's just not the trouble of health and quality of life to eat as I usually. That's what works for me, and I really believe there is not a "good" way of eating for everyone. If beingvegan WhereKeto Or all that else works for you, so I'm really happy that you have found your way. I am happy here on me.
