An unknown salmonella epidemic infected more than 100 people in 15 states
The CDC is still investigating what has generated this massive epidemic.
Disease and prevention control centers are studying a series of salmonella infections covering 15 states. Of the 125 reported cases that started around June 19, 24 people were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
Although other diet diseases are recently found on specific products, it is not linked to specific food, grocery or restaurant, theCDC says. This means that they do not recommend that people stay away from everything related to the epidemic.
The first stages of the survey concluded that DNA of Salmonella bacteria among those who are infected are similar and that cases are likely to be linked. Infected people live in the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota. Other cases of the Salmonella epidemic have been reported in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Washington, Oregon and California.

The symptoms of a salmonella infection start in the intestines and include stomach cramps, diarrhea and fever. These can develop as early as six hours after the consumption of contaminated food. These can also last from four to seven days. It can also spread blood, make more severe symptoms and force the patient to be hospitalized. Serious cases can happen to those with weakened immune systems and people over 65 and under 5 years of age.
The CDC advises anyone with symptoms of an infection to contact a health care provider. Keep a food log and write what you have eaten before feeling sick and reporting it to the health service.
