This surprising thing can ruin the flavor of your coffee, study
And that has nothing to do with what you have put in.
If you are aCoffee Purist, you will know that adding the creamy, milk or sweeteners to your cup can harm the true aroma of your coffee. New research shows that there are other slightly more unexpected factors that can suddenly make your coffee much less powerful (and therefore less pleasant). They have nothing to do with your sense of taste - and everything to do with your sense of hearing.
A new study published in theFood grade and preference Examined how different levels of noise affect your taste experience when it comes to coffee. Participants have been exposed to two different noise volumes resembling the background noise of a busy food court while sipping coffee. They were then invited to evaluate the taste attributes of coffee, such as the acidity, bitterness, the softness and flavor and the intensity of the aroma. The researchers found that people were less sensitive to coffee attributes when they were exposed to stronger noises. In particular, they suddenly have judged the same coffee as less bitter and have a less noticeable aroma when sounds of a buzzing food court have been played harder in their headphones. To start, they were also less likely to order and spend money on coffee when exposed to stronger noises compared to quieter noises.
On the other hand, while living a lower level of noise, they reported a greater enjoyment of the same coffee, even if it released more. A possible explanation of this phenomenon could lie in the duration of human attention, according to the study. For example, stronger noises can reduce the ability of a person to attend the taste-related elements of coffee experience.
Although it sounds like a fun fact of interesting about how we experience food, these conclusions could have greater involvement in public health in urban areas. For example, noise levels could moderate a person's sugar consumption, the study suggests. Researchers also pointed out that this "can have implications for cafes, workers and other stakeholders in coffee experience activities, who may want to review noise as a possible item to control during the customer experience "
