Delicious espresso granita, ready in minutes

This frozen dessert is less than 200 calories and we are betting that you want this instead of ice now.

Serve 4

You will need

2 cups espresso or very well brewedCoffee, warmed
1/2 cup of sugar
Whipping (if you have time and do not bother 50 additional calories, the whipped fresh cream is preferable. Beforeing a cup of thick cream in a cold metal mixing bowl with a spoon of sugar to this only sweet peaks.)
1/2 cup of shaved black chocolate

How to do it

  1. Combine the espresso with the sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves. (If the espresso is cooled, you may need the microwave for 45 seconds to help the sugar dissolve).
  2. Pour the mixture into a shallow metal saucepan (there should be about one inch of liquid) and place in the freezer.
  3. After 15 to 20 minutes, just like the mixture started freezing, remove the flat of the freezer and use a fork to scrape ice crystals developing on the surface.
  4. An attentive scraper will help you reach a light, almost creamy granita, rather than a chunky, icy. Repeat this step once every 30 to 45 minutes until granita is fully frozen.
  5. For each server, place a small spoon of the Granita in a milled wine glass, up with a spoonful of whipped trim and a little chocolate, then repeat with a second layer.

The same Granita technique can be applied to dozens of different products with amazing results. Try them too:

  • Lemon or Lime: Mix 2 cups of water, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice or lime
  • Blueberry Ginger: Mix 2 cups of blueberries, 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon of chopped ginger
  • Watermon Basil: Mix 4 cups Pasley pieces, 1/2 cup sugar, juice of 1 lemon, 8 basil leaves
