The Federal Court orders the elimination of this damaging cerebral pesticide for food
The neurotoxic chemical can be prohibited once and for all.
A Federal Court recently commissioned the Environmental Protection Agency (APE) to take action to prohibit neurotoxicpesticide Chlorpyrifos.
The pesticide was initially being prohibited in 2016 by the Obama administration, however, the EPA Trump "changed the course of next year without providing any scientific justification for its decision," theInterceptreports.
According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the pesticide is currently authorized to be used on near50 food crops, which include fruits, vegetables, nuts and evenMilk. (In touch:Costco Foods You should always avoid, according to the nutritionists)
Why is Chlorpyrifos so big concern?
In February, EWG called the EPA to prohibit the use of the damaging cerebral pesticide in apublic comment letterAs studies have shown exposure to chlorpyrifos during pregnancy may result in a reduction in Qi, the delayed development of motor and sensory functions, as well as social and behavioral dysfunction.
An EPA risk assessment in 2016 concluded that Chlorpyrifos food exhibitions for children aged 1 to 2 yearsCould be greater than 140 times suggested security levels.
"The numbers are alarming, especially because even tiny quantities of this pesticide can cause irreparable neurological damage to the children" Alexis Temkin, Ph.D., a toxicologist EWGsaid in a statement.
This is not the first time that the EPA was close to the ban on the pesticide. Concerns about Chlorpyrifos injuring children emerged from the end of the 1980s with environmental groups exhorting to ban the pesticide. The Dow chemicals company (now known as Corva) and agricultural groups fought against the agency, claiming that the prohibition of chemistry would result in a shortage of fruits and vegetables.
At the time, the EPA did not have the political support of the White House or Congress it needed to get rid of the pesticide earlier. This year, biden has published aexecutive order calling for a review of the reversal of the Trump administration of the prohibition of chlorpyrifos. Corva ceased to use the pesticide last year, but the EPA continues to allow other companies to make pesticide.
