Eating bacon could cause this type of liver disease, a new study reveals

New research on England suggest that cured pork products can be contaminated with this infectious virus.

We all know thatbacon Every day could lead to severalhealth problems Later in life, not to mention some adverse symptoms in the immediate time, like feeling sensation. However, new England's research suggests that cured pork meat can be an additional threat.

The researchers have found that the consumption of bacon, guinea pig liver and other healed pork meat (think of Probuto, Salami and Chorizo) were associated with HEV infection (hepatitis E virus), liver disease often contracted through drinking water that has beencontaminated by fecal matter.

What did the study examine?

The study, which has been published inInfectious emergingIllness, examined the risk factors for HEV infections in the blood donor population in England via a control study of April 2018 to March 2019. Participants included 117 positive blood donors of ARV HEV as well as 564 donors ARV negatives at the ARV, all that we have asked to document their travel history, animal and environmental exposures, alcohol use, drugs and other underlying conditions.

Since the HEV incubation period may be two to nine weeks, all subjects have been invited to write what they have eaten in the nine weeks of blood donation. Of the 19 foods included, 14 of them were significantly associated with HEV, the majority of which wereAnimal items, the most particularly bacon, hardened pork meat and guinea pigs. Interestingly, most participants were asymptomatic, but those who were symptomatic said that fatigue, joint pain and headaches.

However, like Dr. Mike Bohl, MD, MPH, CPH, MWC, Els, Director of Medical Content toRoofand a member of ourMedical Review Commission Stresses that this study discovered an association, not a direct cause. In other words, while there is strong evidence to believe that cured pork products can be riddled with HEV (especially in countries outside the United States), it does not necessarily mean that it is true in all cases. Yet it's a good reminder to limit your consumption ofNitrate rich meats That you might find on a charcuterie or next to your pile of pancakes at breakfast.

"Although it has not established causality, this relationship is meaning that pigs are the main tank of hepatitis E virus," says Bohl. "If you are a pork-based connoisseur and that you are concerned about this risk, two easy steps that you can take are to know everything you can on where your food has been bought and standby with Well cooking properly all you eat. "

On the basis of this study, it is difficult if the hardening process of these types of meat is effective enough to kill traces of HEV.

For simple and easy ways that you can reduce meat, make sure to checkDelicious foods you can eat on a plant-based plan.
