These surprising foods can reduce your risk of colorectal cancer, a new study indicates

Experts say these two staples can provide protection against the third most common cancer in the United States.

Specifically, researchers note that eating about 14 ounces of dairy products (including an average of seven ounces of milk) and three ounces of whole grains per day were associated with lower colorectal risk.

Other interesting observations: Fruit and vegetable consumption was conversely associated with pharynx cancer, which composes an upper part of the throat.

Fruits, vitamin C and folate were all associated with a lower risk of lung cancer, whileCoffee has lowered the risk of liver cancer and carcinoma of the basal cell.
