Here's how you should store butter

"You can also store your butter in the refrigerator, especially if you use it in eggs, pies or scrambled cookies."

So, how long can butter sit safely on the counter?

"It's 100% sure to keep the butter on the counter. The cream that allows you to do your standard butter is usually pasteurized, and it will take little time for the pasteurized dairy to be ruined," says Sidoti. "The butter can certainly go wrong, but as long as you keep it covered, it is unlikely that something happens to the butter before having had the chance to eat it."

"You can leave butter safely at room temperature for about two days. After that, the flavor can start to become rancid and it would not be nice to eat," says Goodwin. However, it's not a question ofsecurityIt's a question of quality.
