War. A word of three letters who has the power to erase everything. He tears people, families and friendships. The victims of war are drowned in a constant wave of guilt, raws, grief and pain. Even when you had the war, it does not leave you behind. Finding peace is a challenge again. But there are a few lucky people who find a way to protect themselves from all the pain in the middle of a war. It could be a person they love, a letter from the house, a token of a lover or even a memory. Anything to keep you healthy in the middle of chaos.

Sean Laidlaw, a 30-year-old British soldier, was stationed in Syria in early 2018. Sean worked as an expert on an elimination bomb, and accordingly, would often end up in the rubble of buildings and houses. During such an incident, Sean ended up looking through the remains of a collapsed building to find survivors. Small if he, while dragging through the debris, it's about to discover something that will change his life forever.

Not a dream

It was early in Raqqa, a city in the country of Syria. Sean had just woke up, surprised and soaked with sweat, another nightmare. Sleep is no longer coming for him. After spending months in the middle of a war, it was just a question when he stops sleeping. And it happened earlier than expected. Sean came out of her tent rubbing remnants of sleep of her eyes.

Sunrise

The horizon had a hue of gold, because the sun was about to rise in the sky. It was the third time in a row that Sean woke up with a nightmare and was awake the way he is supposed to. Sleep was a foreign affair now, not supposed to bring him peace. He missed his house in England. He did not wake up in the sounds of the gunshots or bombs. He did not have nightmares all night.

Essex, England

Sean belonged to the city of Hornchurch in Essex, England. Giving life obvious but life in England was very different from his life now. They had crisp winters, stormy sources and disappointing summers. However, the heat it was surrounded during the last two months, the British summers feel not to be disappointing. In addition, the meteorological condition was not its main concern. It was all the rest.

Humanity

Being in the middle of a current war could shine you of the last shreddings of your humanity. It was the biggest fear of Sean. He did not want to lose among the chaos and the carnage of the war. And as disturbing as it sounds, Sean was grateful that his main work involved broadcasting bombs. It could be in the middle of everything that is still far from the turmoil of everything.

Bomb diffuser

Of course, that did not mean that he had easy. Person with a functional brain would only suppose a bomb diffuser work is easy. But if he could say it himself, Sean was one of the best. His hands were stained like a rock and so far he did not miss an IED. He always was right.

Mail

Sean just ended with breakfast when he heard agitation among his peers. The Mailman was here, which means that everyone was stirred and excited to receive their share of letters and parcels. Sean was not in a hurry for him to stayed at his bench. It was not that he did not want to hear his family, it just took a lot of courage to answer these letters.

Family

Sean's parents waited at home. He was a unique child who meant that leaving them behind was not easy, putting it lightly. He is the only family they have and thousands of kilometers of them are not easy. But he understood his duties and then did they do. And even kilometers away, his parents were his strength.

Mail receipt

The Mailman found Sean sitting on a bench with an intact plate of food in front of him. He passed him a letter and patted his shoulder on his way. Sean took the letter and put it in his pocket. He got up and returned to his tent knowing that he had to be alone when he opened it.

Written a letter

The diffusion of bombs was delicate but the writing of letters at home was a whole other level of difficulty that Sean does not like experimenting. When he put the pen to the paper, he opened emotions inside him he had kept locked up. It made it softer, more vulnerable. But at the same time, he would often meet again to re-read the letters of his parents' mud to remember to continue.

On duty

Sean decided to save the letter for the night. He did not want to start his day feeling emotional and aspiring at home. It was time to be in use, it was his turn to get out of the patrol today with his team. He quickly loaded his equipment and packed his backpack, ready to leave for the day.

Patrol

Sean and his team would patrol the area at about 20 miles from their basecamp. He rushed out and skipped on one of the jeeps ready to take off for the day. Each Jeep has worn a group of five soldiers and a driver. Once everyone was on board, they were ready to go out.

Achieved

The Jeep got up leaving behind a cloud of sand. The soldiers came out of the jeep and walked to their assigned areas, their boots crushing the rubble below it and shoulders loaded with backpacks and rifles. The sun shone brilliantly at the top of the head, Sean could feel the sweat dripping already in the back.

Aircraft

Sean had just finished her second bottle of water when he heard the familiar sound that sent shivers into the spine. The distant murmurs of combat aircraft get closer slowly. Sean looked up at heaven and spotted an aircraft trio on the horizon. The terrible alarm has left sending warning signals to all members of the region because the soldiers have been in place.

The first tremor

They fall from the sky, one by one, striking ramparts and houses and distinguish them the streets around them. Sean could feel the floor under trembling as the light around him is white for a fast second before the hot air blows through the barriers. The rings that the thunder of the city has always managed to deposit one's heart with his stomach.

Consequences

After what felt like hours, but were barely a few minutes, the city slowly silently, just for a second. And then came the sounds that kept Sean at night, the sound of people who cry and seek their loved ones. The soldiers quickly came out of their barriers and rushed to help people around them.

Empty building

Sean went with his team members to find the nearest touch. It was a school building that had now been demolished with rubble. Fortunately, what he could say, the building was empty. This means that no student was injured. But they still had to be sure, then Sean and his team began to pass through the ruins to see if there is a person trapped under her.

Wreck

Sean and other soldiers divided and went on the wreck of the building looking for people who might need their help. The air was thick of dust, the soldiers called for people, hoping to draw their attention, to let them know that the help was here.

Heartbreaking

The view of a breathtaking school has brought an immense amount of grief, something that Sean had never lived before. He could feel it in the air, he knew everyone around him also estimated him. But they had to put a strong behavior, it was expected from them after all. They can not let things like emotions retain them to fulfill their duties.

No victims

It had been hours now, the sun was less aggressive in the sky. However, this was partly because of the thick layer of dust in the atmosphere left by the explosions. Sean and her team almost made the in-depth inspection of the animated school building. Fortunately, none of them found no one in the ruins, so it is prudent to say that the building was empty.

A sound

Sean was on his way out when he heard a groan coming from behind him. He froze in his slopes. He turned around and saw a huge heap of ruins. Sean realized that there could be someone in the building after all. He ran to the bunch of debris and found a huge block of cement in the middle of it.

Discovery

Sean raised the cement block and threw aside. Once the dust had appeared, Sean's eyes landed on what was under the huge block of cement. It was a litter of five puppies, four of whom had died. But one of them has been combined in a small bullet surrounded by his brothers and sisters. Sean's heart melted at sight.

Smoking fur

Even if she was covered with dust, Sean could say that the puppy had a smoking fur. She was a mix of light brown white on the dark body and brown around her eyes and ears. Sean could say she is afraid because she did not move when Sean appeared in front of her. Or it could be hurt, so displacement was not easy.

Trust

Sean knew he had to help the small, she could be injured. But as soon as he held out the show, the puppy started to bark hostilely. Sean realized that she must be afraid of him. She just survived an explosion and could feel frenetic right now. The puppy had to trust him, but he was only a stranger, how do we trust a stranger?

Puppy

Sean decided that she may have hungry, so it's better to get it with food. Maybe it will gain his trust. Sean reached his backpack and took a piece of chicken from his sandwich and passed it slowly to the puppy. The puppy slowly reached his hand and felt it before devouring it.

Rod

Feeding the puppy surely has to trust Sean and this time she allowed him to caress her. Sean smiled and knew he will keep her with him. She is her dog now and he decided to name her barrier. It's almost as if on cue, Barrie came from the front and smoothed her head. Sean took her as a sign she liked the name. He picked it up and brought him back to his tent.

Sleeping

That night, Sean woke up from another of his nightmares. He got up in his bed, his heart beating in his chest. At his surprise, Barrie could feel something about him because she got up and licked her face before going back next to him. It was almost his way of asking him to come back to sleep. Sean could not help but smile.

The next morning

Sean woke up to the sound of her alarm, after what felt like ages. He was always ready in front of everyone because he could not have a lot of sleep thanks to his endless nightmares. He could not believe that Barrie had helped him fall asleep last night. She was her escape from chaos around him.

Inseparable

From that moment, Sean and Barrie were inseparable. She would accompany him everywhere, never leaving his side for a second. Soon, she claimed a place in the heart of each around her. She was known and loved by the members of the Sean team. Sean thought he had brought peace to everyone around her.

Companion

Barrie turned out to be therapeutic for Sean. He knew he came out as he is the one who saved him among the rubble but it was really the opposite. To have it in his camp to come back and play with, he really kept sane. It did almost normal things for him. He even made him a bulletproof vest, keep his safety.

April

It was about two months after Sean found Barrie when he received a call telling him that he returns home. His contract was completed and at the place of renewal, he was allowed to go home. Although it was only good news for Sean, he was concerned about how he will bring Barrie to the house. There is no way he leaves it here. He will find a way to bring it back to England.

Go home

Sean finished unloading the last piece of luggage on his trolley. It was time to leave for England. His heart was heavy at the thought of getting behind Barrie, but he knew he will see her really soon. He has already had a plan in mind and he will get there as soon as he lands in England. Sean left him with a friend and promised to bring her back soon at home.

Leggings

Once in England, Sean left no fire sheet. In order to get Barrie to come to England, he decided to take the help of a British charity called War Paws. This organization is dedicated to saving animals from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other war zones of the world. Sean needed to raise funds to bring Barrie.

Fund raising

Sean has managed to raise funds to bring Barrie back. He managed to raise more than 4500 £. Then he contacted the charity so that they can help him with the paperwork as well as veterinary tests. Of course, the process did not take place for weeks, but it took about seven months to execute everything smoothly.

Hedges

Right as Sean had the initiated process, Barrie was piloted in Iraq where she was vaccinated and verified by war legs. After that, she was stolen in Jordan in August. She was kept in isolation for about 2 months in Jordan, where she suffered other occasions. In October, Barrie was ready to be piloted until the United Kingdom, but because of the missing paperwork, this plan did not work.

Success

Thanks to the cooperation of charity, Sean was allowed to collect Barrie de Paris on Saturday of the same week she was driven from Jordan. She was flying with a veterinarian traveling in Europe from the Middle East. Sean's happiness did not know limits but he was also nervous. He left Syria in April and now it was October. He was afraid that Barrie does not remember who he is.

Meeting

Sean was waiting outside the Paris airport. His hands were sweaty of nervousness. He could not believe that the moment is finally here when he meets his dog again. He searched her desperately in the crowd and then on the corner of her eyes, he spotted the authorities who amarantor.

Always his dog

Even at a distance, he could say that Barrie was no longer a little puppy. His heart jumped into his chest as soon as Barrie's eyes landed on him. At his relief, Barrie came running and jumped on him pushing him on his back licking his face! Sean was delighted, Barrie recognized him immediately! She was still her dog.

The new life

Barrie had only seen the war since she came to this world. So the adaptation to his new life in Essex took a long time. Sean had been loved only and offering the greatest attention to her. He is not a very spiritual man but he thinks he meets Barrie in this exact moment in Syria had something to do with fate. He believes she was his dog from the moment they met.

Typical day

Barrie had settled in Sean's life as a perfect missing room. She usually wakes him at 5 hours by barking on squirrels or because she wants to play with him. He would go out at walks early in the morning, where she would like to roll in the greatest puddle she could find. At night, he would give him the freedom to choose if she wants to sleep inside or outside.

Fitness lover

After his return from Syria, Sean created a life for himself in Essex. He was still fitness-shaped and, therefore, he opened his own gym. His gym is a success and he also publishes fitness videos on his Instagram. Not only that, Sean and Barrie's Story have become famous among all. People have been inspired and are impressed by the link between the two.

Write a book

The story of Sean and Barrie became a viral sensation. Inspired by the reaction he has received from people, Sean also wrote a book named "Barrie: how a rescue dog and his owner saved" who speak of his life when he found Barrie and how things took place After his finding. The book rendered huge sales on the market and was loved by all.

Unconditional love

Sean found Barrie when the turbulence of the war fell heavily on him. She helped him through the war, she helped him with PTSD. And in a way, survive the war together has created an unconditional love link between them. Barrie was like his baby. And after all they crossed in Syria, Sean was happy that he finally has to live a normal and peaceful life with his dog in England.
