Charlie Sheen confirmed during an interview on the NBC's "Today" show that he is HIV-positive. He did not discover about it just recently. He has been known for years but has chosen to keep him secret. Charlie says he was diagnosed about 4 years ago. He had a headache at the time and was worried that he could have a brain tumor. He went to a hospital and the test results revealed that he had no tumor, he had HIV.

Charlie Sheen brought his doctor, Robert Huizenga, to the show with him. The doctor pointed out that Charlie does not have AIDS, he is just HIV positive. The difference is that HIV is just a virus that can lead to AIDS. Charlie takes daily medications for HIV, who keeps him in good health and helps to contain the virus. Doctors feared that because of Charlie's history with drug addiction and alcoholism, he could forget to take his HIV medications, but so far, Charlie was really good with that. He says he's clean and does not take any more drugs, but he admitted that he drinks from time to time.

Why did he decide to do television to tell everyone to be HIV-positive? Charlie Sheen says he spent too much time and money trying to hide that. When he told his friends closest to his diagnosis, hoping for help and support it. Instead, it has been encountered with blackmail and threats to reveal this information to the press. Now he finally decided that sufficiently enough. Instead of trying to buy you privacy and cope with threats all the time, he has publicly admitted to be HIV-positive. "I think I freed myself from a prison today," Charlie said.
